Natural Probiotic Selection Kefir Starter Culture – Pack of 5 Freeze Dried Sachets, Excellent product.

As i wanted to start making kefir again as it is good for digestive problems i contacted the supplier. Happily i have been very pleased with the product which i received. It was exactly as i expected and the instructions which came with it were clear (but must be adhered to ). I made 2 pints of kefir with a single sachet and can use the other two freeze-dried starters at a later date since they will store for months. Meanwhile i shall retain some of the kefir which i have made to start of my next batch. By the way, the packet came rapidly , was well wrapped but able to go through the letter-box. I shall definitely use this supplier again.

Used this with my yogurt maker. Half a sachet with one pint of milk.

I bought this after hearing it was good for crohns sufferers. I bought this after hearing it was good for crohns sufferers. Obviously i have to give it time to work but it is so easy to make and i was extremely impressed that the company send email instructions. Fingers crossed it is the miracle people say it is but for the price it’s definitely worth a try.

Great product and great customer service. Great product but best part was the very informative email that arrived the day before. It was informative and a step by step account of to use the product. I chose this product because other buyers had said how good the email was. Have made my first batch with great success.

Excellent product, works really well with no problems.

Kefir Starter Culture – Pack of 5 Freeze Dried Sachets for Milk Kefir (5 sachets) : I put mine in the airing cupboard while it was setting. I used 900 ml of organic whole milk. Let it cool to around 30 degrees ( i used a thermometer ) and then pour through a strainer into a jug which allows you to mix the the kefir powder. I then filled 8 pots with lids and placed in the airing cupboard for twenty four hours. After they had set i placed them in the fridge.

We are on our second batch of kefir from this starter culture and the product is reacting exactly as it said it would. We have been using kefir for a couple of months now, and the benefits are becoming clear in terms of improved health of the gut. It is a bit of a kerfuffle to start the kefir of at the very beginning with the sterilisation, milk temperature and incubation period etc, but once its going, its well worth the effort.

Perfect for making your own healthy kefir – and inexpensive for what you get. I never realised that making kefir – or yoghurt – was so easy. I have tried many methods – but now i have discovered ‘easiyo’ easiyo home-made yoghurt making kit. Includes maker, jar & 2 sachets , everything becomes much simpler. I don’t use the sachets any more – but the kefir starter cultures here – which work perfectly. Sometimes i use natural yoghurt as a starter culture, which also works well. Organic whole milk is a natural choice. Keeping a little of the kefir each time to make a new batch works very well, and i have managed to make 12-15 litres of kefir from only using one starter sachet – that makes it very inexpensive – and it tastes great. I have yet to try it on fruit based liquids, but i am assured that it works.

    1. It did what it said it would do. Simple to start fermenting kefir although the instructions were minimal.

    1. We bought some of them last year since we work internationally and kefir was not one of the things on offer in supermarkets. It worked a treat and one of those starter cultures lasted for a good half a year. Lovely tasting kefir that had quite a firm consistency. We tried once to make it without boiling milk which resulted in runnier kefir (not our preferred consistency). New batches are quite quick to make – unless you leave your cat in the kitchen unattended while the milk is cooling down; this is not advisable. Amongst other things, we used the kefir to make frozen-yoghurt style ice-cream, so goodwe had given the other sachets away, so i ordered another pack since we are moving to a new country after the summer and i am not sure i would get a jar of kefir through customs.

  10. Made delicious kefir with no problem using good information supplied with culture. I used easiyo yogurt maker and organic full milk which made thick creamy kefir. Feel confident enough to try using other milks with my saved frozen kefir.

This makes great kefir culture. It does not create a full range culture like kefir grains, however it is still very good. Click yes if you found this helpful to your purchase decision. It took around 36 hours for my first 1 x litre batch. It was lovely and thick, like a yoghurt drink as expected. I froze around half in an ice tray. Each time i wanted to make more, i use 3 ice cubes for 1 litre.

For my first foray into kefir making i bought both this (by natural probiotic selection) and milk kefir starter cultures (by the kefir company). There are some clear differences between the culturing of the two and the consistency of the resulting kefir. The instructions with this product, given on the pack and the sachets, and also in documents accessed via an email sent to the buyer, are a little contradictory with each other, and make it sound rather more complicated than necessary. I did not boil the milk as instructed (surely this is only necessary if you were to use unpasturised milk, i reasoned). I did microwave the milk a little to warm it up to room temperature before mixing the powder. I did this with both products, using around a litre of organic milk with each in parfait jars, and left in a place where the temperature varied between 20-30 degrees. The tkc product was ready more quickly, in a bit more than 36 but certainly less than 48 hours, whereas this nps product needed the full 48. The tkc product was more grainy and watery (though you can stir it to homogenise it a little, but this isn’t overly successful) and the nps is rather more uniform but sticky and gloopy. Reculturing in both cases requires saving around 3 tbsp of the product and adding up to a litre of milk again.

      1. Further instructions required?. Made plenty of kefir with my first sachet. Easy to follow instructions are available via the qcode on the package but are also emailed direct from the supplier. Only bit of advice is make sure you’re reading the instructions for kefir and not for yoghurt, they come together on the same leaflet. It would also be good to know if it’s easy to stop this kefir and restart it at a later date as it makes way too much for me.

    1. . I have noticed health benefits. I did take a jar in a weekend break. . It is a bit sensitive to travelling. . Seemed to affect the texture of itbut a brilliant health aid. . In fact i have tested it in that i’ve stopped taking all the supermarket vitamins etc and this seems to fill the gap nicely.

  15. I heard ‘kefir’ mentioned in a bbc radio 4 programme a few days ago. Apparently research has been done into all the ‘probiotic’ yoghurt and drinks that are available – and kefir was the only thing found to have any actual health benefit. Went to amazon and found this supplier. Looked good at the price as a starter for a learner. Ordered it in that afternoon and it arrived the very next afternoon by post through the letterbox via amazon prime. Nipped out (despite the drizzle) to buy two litres of organic, pasteurized, homogenized whole milk. ‘steamed’ about one and a half litres of the milk in the microwave in a sterilized microwaveable container for ten minutes or so, as suggested by a previous reviewer. Cooled it down to tepid in a cold water bath for a couple of hours.
