The Kefir Company Milk Kefir Starter Cultures – 3 sachets : After following instructions carefully, I have been moderately successful

After taking nsaids 9 years ago i developed a nagging pain in my abdomen, always in the same place. It would come & go, but often occurred daily. Since starting the kefir last year, this pain has subsided to where i go probably weeks without noticing anything. The only downside for me is the taste, so i mix it into a smoothie.

Keep healthy feeding your gut bacteria. Easy to make but make sure you follow the instructions, there are videos on the internet. I recommend using full-fat milk to get the best results from your bio-cultures. We tried semi-skimmed and coconut milk, but the results weren’t not as good. The whole family enjoy a kefir smoothy in the afternoon made with fresh fruit. My wife has noticed a huge different with her digestion problems. We intend to keep on using it and our friends have started using it as well.

I bought the starter kit some months ago and wasn’t very successful – perhaps i was impatient. I bought the live culture and was so successful that i decided to try the starter kit again. This time i waited two days and the kefir started to grow. If you decide on the starter kit, keep it warm in a cupboard, follow the instructions and give it time it will grow. Here are the specifications for the The Kefir Company Milk Kefir Starter Cultures – 3 sachets:

  • Make up to 100 litres of Kefir
  • Contains 7 strains of probiotics
  • Supports and optimises your intestinal flora, digestion and bowel movements
  • Supports body functions and resistance to disease
  • Easy to Make; no boiling of milk and can be set at room temperature

I gave upalcohol nine months ago and felt my system could do with a boost. I’ve used this kefir ever since. I didn’t find it worked so well with skimmed milk but fine with semi and i see it works with coconut and almond (review here) so i’ll give that a go. Fast delivery and i feel great. Same breakfast every morning – i even take it with me abroad. Works even better in warm weather.

I have only used it with soya milk and thoroughly enjoy it. You can get several batches from one satchel so great value.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Therefore standard supermarket products are a waste of my time
  • Good, tasty kefir
  • Simple, cheap and delicious.

I’ve been making kefir for three years now. I’ve only ever used these starter grains. No need to shop elsewhere – these are excellent. Other kefir i have tasted is not as good.

Found this to be everything we hoped – easy to make, economical, excellent taste and thickness.

  1. Ferments at room temperature. I haven’t had chance to make it yet. I still have 3 litres of commercially made kefir to use first. Instructions tell you to dissolve a sachet in a litre off room temperature milk. Leave for 48 hrs then put 3 tablespoons of it in another litre and keep repeating until quality deteriorates. The three sachets are sufficient to make 100 litres , apparently.

Makes great kefir and the company is very helpful with advice.
      1. Cultures consistently and reliably make batch after batch of good quality kefir. These starter cultures consistently and reliably make batch after batch of good quality kefir. I have been using them successfully for a number of months now and would recommend.

Tl:dr – good quality sachets of keffir, easy to produce and surprisingly effective. So, i’ll ‘fess up early on – i am deeply skeptical of most ‘alternative’ treatments for conditions. I don’t buy claims that keffir will bring about world peace and resurrect the dead (ok. I may have exaggerated those claims. ) and since there were very few peer-reviewed academic studies regarding the usefulness of keffir i had been fairly derisive of the claims made regarding keffir’s health benefits. A note before i start: individual anecdotal experience is considered the weakest and least reliable form of scientific evidence, so don’t take my experiences as a guarantee that keffir will have the same benefits for you as i am about to describe. However, it’s not going to do you any harm to give it a try. My wife has experienced recurring ‘tummy problems’ for the last 5 years. At one point she was consuming 5 immodium (other diorrhea medications are available) a day just to be able to go about her everyday life.

Excellent stuff, helps my dad’s stomach issues enough he doesn’t feel the need to take the omeprazole. This stuff has a lot of scientific backing and will become a lot more prominent in the uk in years to come.

    1. Simple, cheap and delicious. . Only on 2nd sachet because i let a batch overheat in the sun. “fizzy” yoghurt was weird at first, but tastes great and very easy to make. Having kefir smoothies every morning, delicious. Have had no problems leaving a batch unopened in the fridge for a week while we’ve been away and then starting another batch when we get back. So simple to make, just using full fat uht milk and adding milk powder when i want it thicker and creamier.

The best thing since sliced milk. This is so simple and straightforward. It makes you feel stronger, alive and well. The impact can be felt in the first week. The sense of well being engendered can be transformative. I started on this after 9 weeks of antibiotics and it literally blew the aftermath of that away. You do have to watch the temperature and how in date the milk you use is for the fermenting period.

Nice kefir if you look after it properly. It took a while for me to get the hang of making a refreshing kefir drink, it’s a fine balance between time and temperature, leaving it too long in too warm temperatures will make it over ferment and taste vinegary and runny, too cold and it takes longer to ferment, these are living cultures and to do it right you need to keep on eye on them. I’m glad i make my own kefir now because i think the supermarket kefir is too consistent to make it any good for decent live cultures.

    1. I made it in a kilner jar with full fat goats milk and it tastes pretty much like live goats yoghurt you get from the super market, a little bit thinner than yoghurt, but a little but thicker than milk. Just don’t let it go below 20 degrees when fermenting and bobs your uncle.
